From Estate to Intimate - Maximizing Space, Preserving Memories
I recently had the privilege of helping clients downsize from a 5,600 sq. ft. home to a 1,300 sq. ft., two-bedroom unit. Projects like this require thoughtful planning, as we often need to narrow down many furniture pieces to what will truly fit and function in the new space.
My process begins with collaboration: clients identify the pieces that are most meaningful or essential to them. I then measure, catalog, and map these items into a detailed space plan for their new home. Not everything can come along, so I guide clients through the process of prioritizing and letting go.
In this home, the breathtaking view became the focal point. I placed the loveseat facing outward, creating both a cozy living area and natural separation from the dining space. We incorporated cherished items—including a grand antique mirror, a family heirloom chest, and even a small play area for their grandchildren—all while ensuring the room’s many art pieces could be enjoyed from every angle.
To simplify the transition further, I partnered with an estate sale company to handle the remaining items. This allowed my clients to keep their most treasured pieces, gain value from what was left behind, and prepare their estate for sale—all without the stress of managing it alone.
The result was a home that feels both personal and functional, and clients who were thrilled with how seamless the process turned out.
